Seagulls vs Pigeons

October 9th, 2011

I’m sorry to put pigeon ‘mess’ on the site, but frankly it’s on my mind at the moment. Since someone has got rid of the seagulls in the Jewellery Quarter (as previously mentioned) it seems to have left the way open for pigeons to move in and with the pigeons has come their ‘mess’. They have taken to roosting in various places around the courtyard and we’re having to start thinking about how to make them unwelcome.

Privilages

October 8th, 2011

A privilege of being Stan’s Cafe’s General Manager is the chance to stay working in the office until 21:00 on a Friday night finishing annual accounts off prior to them being sent to the accountant.

A privilege of being Stan’s Cafe’s Artistic Director is the chance to go into work at 21:00 on a Friday night in order to wield a hammer to free a gate that some stranger has rammed their car into. The gate’s securing peg has been wildly warped – presumably someone’s car has a massive dent in a bumper somewhere.

Patched entrance

October 7th, 2011

A big hole was developing in the courtyard entrance. We’ve had it patched. It is a slow news day.

New Africa

October 6th, 2011

Here is an early picture of our new, upgraded Africa space. Please note the new roof, which delivers a perfect black out, insulation and NO leaks. In order to celebrate we have replaced all the dud fluorescent tubes and had the floor re-painted. Shockingly it looks pretty much like a studio theatre now.

Heater Ruled Out

October 5th, 2011

Losing the boiler was an annoyance, losing the heater in Americas is part of a plan. There are three fixed space heaters @ A E Harris. Two work effectively, this one is useless. It just takes up space looking ugly and perilous. Come next May it will be in the way of a show we have planned (details to be announced on 10th October), so we asked the factory guys how they felt about us losing it. They are more than happy to have one less item to service so it is now disconnected and waiting to be disposed of. Don’t panic though, we now far more effective mobile heating unit, you will not be left to perish.

Boiler ruled out

October 4th, 2011

None of us are qualified heating engineers, but all of us assumed that the boiler needed condemning and when the qualified heating engineers turned up so it proved. Our boiler is condemned. For now we’re boiling kettles to do the washing up.

BE in the sun

September 30th, 2011

Today the BE Festival team visited to share thoughts on how this year’s festival worked and what could be improved for next year. As it was such beautiful weather we pulled our meeting table outside into the courtyard. It was all very civilized.

Carott in the House

September 19th, 2011

Word from Barbara Nice’s Jamboree at the venue on Saturday is that it was a fun gig, with the bonus of a surprise appearance from Jasper Carott, who delivered a short stand-up set. @ A E Harris – Home of the Stars.

MAC Away Day

September 15th, 2011

We were pleased today to host Heads of Department from MAC on their ‘away day’. They didn’t travel very far ‘away’, but hopefully just stepping out of their building helped them think about it in a fresh way.

Meanwhile Craig has finished rigging for the Barbara Nice Jamboree on Saturday.
